About The Howling Moon

The Howling Moon is a rooftop bar on top of the Canberra Rex Hotel on Northbourne Avenue, with panoramic city views. At launch in 2018 it had a second bar on the level below, linked by a glass staircase.

The venue's site advertises cocktails, bar snacks and local drinks, plus sunset sessions, happy hours and special events, and says guests can dance under the stars with local music makers. It does not name genres or regular DJs. The launch menu featured signature cocktails and an antipasto platter. Bookings go through ResDiary.

It was promoted in 2018 as Canberra's first rooftop bar. Hours have shifted over time: 2018 coverage listed shorter weekday hours, while the venue site and a December 2024 HerCanberra piece list daily opening from 4pm until late.
