Western Australia · late-night guide

Perth and Freo, after dark.

Northbridge’s clubs that run to 5am, the CBD’s basement bars and band rooms, and Fremantle’s looser nights on South Terrace: where to go out late on the west coast, and how to get home.

Perth

Perth’s late night lives in Northbridge, where the clubs on James and William streets run to 5am, with the CBD’s basement bars and the Beaufort Street strip picking up the slack.

Northbridge

The city’s after-dark heart, just over the railway from the CBD: house clubs on James Street, band rooms and techno on William Street, and a supervised taxi rank on Melbourne Street when it’s time to go.

Perth CBD

Office towers by day, but Murray Street’s Magnet House and Amplifier, The Court at the top of Beaufort Street and a run of basement bars keep the city centre going well past midnight.

Highgate & North Perth

Up Beaufort Street and across to Fitzgerald Street: a DJ bar with real dance-floor credentials, a rock dive and one of Perth’s longest-running pub band rooms.

Fremantle

Freo does it looser: big touring gigs and 5am club nights on South Terrace, scrappy band rooms on High Street and Mojos up in North Fremantle.

South Terrace & Cappuccino Strip

Freo’s main drag, where the Old Synagogue’s rooftop, a retro whiskey bar, the town’s queer bar and Metropolis’s all-nighters sit within a few minutes’ walk.

High Street, Parry Street & North Freo

The band-room end of Freo: the Buffalo Club on High Street, Freo.Social’s big room near the oval, and Mojos a short ride north.
