Brisbane

Last drinks

Fortitude Valley and the CBD are Safe Night Precincts: approved venues can serve until 3am, and late venues scan your ID at the door. There’s no lockout.

Late services

TransLink runs NightLink buses and late trains on Friday and Saturday nights. Check the journey planner for your route before you head out.

Gold Coast

Last drinks

In the Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach Safe Night Precincts, approved venues can serve until 3am; elsewhere the limit is 2am. There’s no lockout, but late venues in the precincts scan your ID at the door.

Secure taxi ranks

On Friday and Saturday nights, marshalled ranks with security run on Orchid Avenue near Elkhorn Avenue, on Cavill Avenue, and on Surf Parade in Broadbeach next to Victoria Park.

Tram

G:link runs late on Friday and Saturday nights along the line from Helensvale through Southport, Surfers and Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads. Check the timetable for the last tram before you head out.

Trains and buses

The last train to the Gold Coast leaves Brisbane around 12:30am on Friday and Saturday nights. Brisbane’s NightLink buses don’t run here. From Coolangatta, check the journey planner for the 700 bus.

Airlie Beach

Last drinks

Airlie Beach is a Safe Night Precinct, so approved venues on the main street can serve until 3am (2am elsewhere), with 30 minutes to finish your drink. Expect security and ID checks on busy nights.

Taxis and rideshare

13cabs runs Airlie’s taxis around the clock (13 2227 or the app); expect a queue at the rank around midnight on big nights. Uber operates but has only a handful of drivers, so book ahead.

Buses

Whitsunday Transit runs buses between Airlie, Cannonvale, Jubilee Pocket and Proserpine, but don’t count on a late one. Check the last departure before you head out.

Walking

If you’re staying in town, everything is a short walk from the lagoon. Cannonvale is a long walk in the dark, so get a cab.

Townsville

Last drinks

The CBD is a Safe Night Precinct, where approved venues can serve until 3am; elsewhere the limit is 2am. There’s no lockout, and you get 30 minutes to finish your drink.

Secure taxi rank

On Flinders Street East near Denham Street, with marshals and security on Friday and Saturday nights. Townsville Taxis: 131 008.

Late bus

TransLink runs a late-night service from Townsville City in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings. Check the journey planner for stops and times.

Rideshare

Uber operates in Townsville, and it’s the easiest way home from Garbutt and the suburbs.

Cairns

Last drinks

Cairns CBD is a Safe Night Precinct, so approved venues can serve until 3am; everywhere else the limit is 2am. There’s no lockout, but venues trading after midnight scan your ID.

Secure taxi rank

TransLink lists a supervised taxi rank on Lake Street at the Spence Street corner on Friday and Saturday nights. Cairns Taxis: 13 10 08.

Late buses

TransLink lists late-night routes from Cairns Central to Palm Cove, Smithfield, Raintrees and Edmonton. Check the journey planner for days and times before you head out.

Rideshare

Uber operates in Cairns. Expect waits and surge pricing around the 3am close.
